Bird Cabin

Clay and glaze. I began making the base of the house and the walls. The chimney and the roof were difficult as I wanted to ensure the walls lined up. The roof was also a challenge because the curved tiles that were carved into the roof could easily be rubbed away during attaching. I then waited until the piece was leatherhard to carve in the ladder and the lines on the house. When glazing the piece, getting the glaze into each carved line was the most challenging part.

Grandma’s Candy Dish

Clay and glaze. To make the art piece I used clay, an exacto knife, as well as a carving tool. I decided to make six cuts into a slab of clay to make the origami bowl taller. To add the texture I waited until the piece was leatherhard and took a carving tool to carve little lines on the sides of the bowl.
