![]() Loui and the Wiggle KnivesInspired by the Pop Art movement, I wanted to turn a household item into something more whimsical and different; funky knives that could never cut into a cake. I named my pieces the butcher knife is Clairece, the yellow knife is Kenny, the green knife is Jason, and the blue cake is Loui. | ![]() Sgraffito MugHand build slab mug decorated using the sgraffito technique. | ![]() Sgraffito MugHand build slab mug decorated using the sgraffito technique. |

![]() Coil VaseI made this vase using the coiling technique where a piece of clay is rolled into a long coil and built on top of a previous coil. I attempted to make the vase more interesting by putting small coil spirals towards the top of the vase. The goal of the spirals was to emphasize the use of the coiling technique in this piece. | ![]() VSCO TurtleThe theme of this piece was Pop Art, so I looked into the VSCO trend that was very popular last summer and made a turtle with a Hydroflask. This piece took some planning, since I had never made a piece with multiple parts before. I had to think of ways to attach the “limbs” to the main shell of the clay turtle. I had some challenges with the glazing process of this piece, since the dome shape of the shell caused some glaze to drip onto the bottom portion of the piece. | ![]() Sgraffito MugHand build slab mug decorated using the sgraffito technique. |

![]() Flower Coil VaseClay and glaze This vase was constructed using coils that were stacked upon one another and joined using slip. The pot was fired in the kiln, then glazed with a glaze mimicking the color of case hardened steel. The glaze was created by mixing Ancient Jasper and Blue Rutile glazes, Ancient Jasper as the base coat and Blue Rutile as the outer coat. The shape of the vase mimics that of a hibiscus flower. | ![]() Pop ArtA combination of hand building techniques to create a ceramic artwork inspired by the Pop Art. movement. | ![]() Sgraffito MugHand build slab mug decorated using the sgraffito technique. |

It has hole cut out of the top with the intention of growing a plant out of it and giving it a treehouse-like characteristic. |

![]() A Tribute to Lil Nas XClay, glaze This piece was made as part of a Pop Art unit. My intention was to imitate country rapper Lil Nas X’s signature cowboy hat worn at the grammys. Lil Nas X is most known for his fusion of rap/pop music with country music in his hit “Old Town Road”. The artist attempted to create a color similar to the iconic hot-pink of Lil Nas X’s hat, but unfortunately, the glaze came out lighter than expected. |

![]() Patchwork of TexturesClay and glaze This bowl was created am designed to incorporate a variety of textures, resulting in the ceramic piece being divided up into multiple sections in which a unique texture was carved into each of them. My intention for the coloring of the bowl was to limit myself using only blue and green. | ![]() Ceramic Characters | ![]() Sgraffito MugHand build slab mug decorated using the sgraffito technique. |

![]() Superficial FestivitiesClay and glaze This minimalist, Pop art inspired piece is part of a series which also includes a small, lone strawberry. The simplicity in design and glaze and lack of volume speaks of the superficial nature of such holidays. Like the single bite of a mediocre strawberry, or the gift of a single, not particularly pretty, flower, many are left unsatisfied, their romantic expectation unmet. | ![]() Sgraffito MugHand build slab mug decorated using the sgraffito technique. |

![]() Places and Spaces | ![]() Am I Popular Now?Clay and glaze This piece was inspired by the Pop Art movement. The piece comments on current popular foods. Unfortunately in today’s society food itself is not popular. Unhealthy dieting has become the most popular thing to do when it comes to food. So this piece represents the popularity of the lack of food. | ![]() A Rainy DayHand build slab mug decorated using the sgraffito technique. This piece was created as a gift. It is meant to be an object that one can use on a “rainy day” to cheer them up. This is a reminder that even on hard days there is going to be something to look forward to, because even though it may be a hard day, now one can enjoy a cup of tea. |

![]() ForgettingThis piece represents the struggle of forgetting trauma. The black “liquid” coming from the women’s head represents her memories, but no matter how hard she tries to get them out of her head they always surround her. The tape over the women’s mouth symbolizes how impossible asking for help feels when you feel as though you are drowning in your own thoughts. | ![]() PonyoClay and glaze | ![]() Ocean EyesClay and glaze |

![]() UmbraMade using a technique known as Sgraffito, this piece was inspired by an icon within the song “O Light” by a Japanese musician known as Kikuo. This piece explores the concept of absence and isolation implicated in the song through the literal removal of the dark blue under-glaze which is then covered over with a clear glaze finish. An outsider may see the mug’s true color in slivers and may not, although they can observe it, come into contact with the clay beneath. | ![]() Umbra |

![]() Coil VesselMy intention here was to make a planter for a house plant, as it was nearing spring and I enjoy gardening. To do this, I intentionally left some space in the bottom of the project and each of the side coils has air pockets. It was actually very challenging to accomplish this, though, as I had to make the “cracks” big enough to let air escape but not too big so dirt or seeds would fall out. | ![]() PhoneI have always been interested in vintage products and clothing. So for my pop art piece, I felt inspired to make a telephone. While I never got to actually make the phone part, as I ran out of time, the base of the phone still communicates my idea. This piece was time consuming as there were multiple small details, like the dial system and the shape of the project. I also had to carve out the bottom so the piece wouldn’t explode. | ![]() Pinch PotMy intention with this piece was to have an opening to store my coin collection so the coins are visible but don't fall out. I have a coin collection because every time I travel somewhere I get a penny that is pressed with something to remember that visit: a cheap but memorable gift. However, this project was challenging as it was my first time working with clay in almost 3 years so the structure isn’t perfect. But there weren’t any issues with the thickness of the pot, so no cracks are visible. |

![]() Shrek | ![]() The Webbed MugClay and underglaze Hand build slab mug decorated using the sgraffito technique. The mug is used often, and is efficient. The spider web pattern, the spiders, and its dark blue glaze, gives you a sense of calmness in your soul. | ![]() The Mini Pip BoyClay and glaze The Mini Pip Boy is a miniature sized replica of the pip boy from the game Fallout 4. In the game, you use a pip boy on your wrist to keep track of your inventory, to use as a map, and a radio. The white cord on this piece is used in the game to open giant doors to underground vaults. |

![]() Ideal BreakfastThis artwork was inspired by Pop Art. The food part of the artwork was made using clay and clay rollers. The egg white, egg yolk, and bacon was a flat clay piece that was carved using a pin tool. The cinnamon rolls were rolled and carved underneath. Various glazes were used to create the perfect color. The plate was thrown on the wheel. It was then smoothed by hand. The masterpiece inspired the artist himself as he wanted to create the “ideal breakfast.” | ![]() Sgraffito MugHand build slab mug decorated using the sgraffito technique. | ![]() Ceramic Characters |

![]() Self Directed Project | ![]() Ceramic CharactersClay and glaze This rendition of Kermit was created so that he is always looking up at you. His body is made of coils, his head is made from two pinch pots, and his collar is made from slab. | ![]() Pop ArtClay and glaze This foot-long spoon was largely inspired by the characteristics of the Pop Art movement, such as turning everyday household items into art and altering objects to fit larger than life proportions. |

![]() Coil VaseClay and glaze This vase was made completely from coils. The colors, texture and shape were both meant to give this piece a peaceful and flowing look. | ![]() Places and SpacesClay and acrylic paint This piece is inspired by Australian artist, Howard Arkley’s brightly colored, airbrushed houses. The house was built using clay slabs and is designed to have a very simplistic form to contrast its bright, eye catching colors. | ![]() Sgraffito MugHand build slab mug decorated using the sgraffito technique. |
